Green Design-Sustainable Industry Solutions

2025-04-03

The Green Design project supports the transition to climate-neutral factories by embedding circular economy principles into the design and procurement of production systems. Instead of adding sustainability measures later, Green Design ensures resource efficiency and environmental impact are considered from the outset.

Bringing together academia, industry, and policymakers, the project develops practical methods to reduce resource use, CO2 emissions, and waste. Green Design aims to align environmental goals with the competitiveness of Swedish industry.

Why this Matters

The successful application of AI in industry will be key to future Swedish and European competitiveness. Moreover, giving access for all people working in industry to tools that utilize data and analytics is inclusive and can provide a sense of participation in the technological development in society.

Why Green Design Matters

Industrial design plays a critical role in achieving sustainability goals. Green Design promotes longevity, reuse, and efficiency, helping companies shift from traditional ownership models (CAPEX) to leasing models (OPEX), thereby reducing material waste.
The project also addresses gender equality by ensuring diverse perspectives in decision-making, raising awareness, and improving representation in the male-dominated industrial sector.

Key Deliverables

Green Toolbox – Practical guidelines, circular design principles, and technical requirements for sustainable industrial practices.
Methodology for Green Design – Tested with partners like Astra-Zeneca, Scania, and Volvo CE to ensure long-term reductions in environmental impact.
Knowledge Sharing & Policy Input – Insights will inform public policy and support national sustainability strategies via the Delegation for Circular Economy.
Industry-Public Collaboration – Encouraging sustainable business models to enhance the competitiveness of Swedish machine suppliers.
Inclusive Design Process – Promoting gender equality and divers participation in sustainability efforts.
