RESILIENT continues until 2031!

The Swedish Energy Agency has granted an extension until 2031 of our competence center RESILIENT energy systems, and the Energy Agency's funding is increased by SEK 72.5 million.

We are now around 50 parties. The Centre is led by Mälardalen university together with University of Gävle, Uppsala University, Umeå University and Linköping University and consists in the extension of totally around 50 partners from academia, business- and public sector. A number of new research projects with participating doctoral students will be started from 2027, some of which are a continuation of some of the current projects.
The aim of the RESILIENT Competence Centre will still be to provide new research-based knowledge, tools and practices that adopt a systemic perspective for secure and optimal energy supply.

Compared to the current RESILIENT period, the new period 2027-2031 adds preparedness as a key challenge, introduces island operation mode as a flexibility solution, and includes energy-intensive industries as an additional end-user in the energy system. These areas are of interest based on both changes in society during recent years with for example increased focus on energy security and robustness in times of crisis such as war and natural disasters, and on results from the research done in the current period concerning tools and sector coupling possibilities.

A number of interesting project proposals were received ahead of last year's RESILIENT Annual Workshop and this autumn we will formalise the projects to be implemented during 2027-2031. We will also formalise the participation of all parties, including the current ones. 

It is fantastic that we can continue the activities in the competence center, and it is thanks to everyone's efforts, a positive external evaluation, a strong application for continuation, and granted funding.

And we all know that Resilient energy systems are even more important today than they were in 2022 when we started the 10-year adventure!
