Use Case 3

  • Skanska station

Scope

The use case focuses on developing an automated solution for fabricating rebar cages for concrete structures in the construction indus try. The use case considers a production cell featuring a gantry structure equipped with three robotic arms. A detailed depiction of this pro duction cell is presented in Fig. 2, located at the MDU Collaborative Center@Finslatten. Each of the three robotic arms is mounted on the gantry structure, arranged in an inverted orientation with their bases attached to the gantry and extending downwards. The setup incorporates three ABB IRB1200-7/0.7 industrial robots. This integrated, system of three gantry-robot configurations col lectively offers 24 Degrees of Freedom (DOF).

These DOFs can be operated independently, except for potential collision scenarios. This setup's comprehensive design and implementation have been undertaken in collaboration with Robotdalen. It has been successfully employed in preliminary experiments for constructing scaled-down versions of rebar cages, demonstrating its practical applications in this field.
