More applicants in the international application round

Increased number of applicants who have paid their registration fee, despite less applicants in total at Master’s level. At Bachelor's level, the number of applicants has increased by up to 36 percent compared to last year. This is shown in the latest application statistics.

This year, there are less applicants for Master’s level programmes in the international application round, both nationally and for MDU. For MDU’s English taught Master's programmes, the decline is 6 per cent in the total number of applicants and 19 per cent in the number of first-hand applicants. This is in comparison with the same programmes 2021.

Despite the fact that there are slightly less applicants, more of the fee-paying applicants have paid the application fee, 11 percent more than the same programmes last year. Paying the application fee is a prerequisite for the application to be assessed.

At Bachelor’s level, the number of applicants has increased. This year we have opened the chamber music program as well as a course package in chamber opera for international applicants, but even by comparison with the same programmes as in last year's international application round, there is an uptick. Analytical Finance accounted for the single largest increase, with 36 percent more first-hand applicants this year. The total number of applicants for that program has increased by 26 percent compared to last year.

"For several years we’ve had a steady increase, and this year's figures should be seen more as an expected flattening than a decrease. We thought we’d see it already last year and a strong contributing factor is probably the pandemic and the effects it has had on many families' finances around the world," says Johanna Forsström, Project Manager for international student recruitment at MDU.
