The restriction requiring distance learning will be eased

The government has stated that the requirement for distance learning at Sweden’s universities and higher education institutions will be eased. MDH is now planning for the teaching to partly be conducted on campus and partly on distance during the autumn.
– This is a decision that we welcome and a scenario that we have been preparing for, says Malin Gunnarsson, Assistant University Director at MDH.

The government’s decision to ease the requirements for distance education applies from 15 June, meaning that also summer courses are included. The decision does not imply that all teaching at MDH can be shifted back to its normal form. The directives from the Public Health Agency to avoid larger social gatherings and keep a distance still stand.
– Exactly what courses are course elements that will be conducted with on-campus versus distance teaching is not yet clear. Right now we are striving to create pre-conditions for running our operations the best way possible, for both students and staff. At the same time we need to continue to take a social responsibility and live up to the recommendations provided by the Public Health Agency, says Malin Gunnarsson.

Personal responsibility

Matilda Ernkrans, Minister for higher education and research, clarifies that the notification about students and universities now can prepare to shift to more on-campus learning, is important. At the same time she points out the personal responsibility among the students.

– The higher education institutions has a responsibility to adapt the teaching and reduce the spread of infection. But the students also have a large personal responsibility. To manage their studies but also to stay at home at the slightest symptom of disease, keep a distance to others and wash hands. Together we can get through this, she says.

Keep yourself updated

The Management Team for Crisis and Alert Situation at MDH are currently processing the new directive from the government and will provide more detailed information during next week.
