CIRCLE LAB, a revolutionary learning approach for circular chemistry in secondary education

CIRCLE LAB first Intellectual Output, Circular Economy Modules, targets defining specific educational modules in the field of Circular Economy for high school students to meet this demand for higher-quality educational materials. The project aims to develop teacher training courses and educational tools around the topic of circular economy with a focus on sustainable chemistry.

CIRCLE LAB Consortium will host its second virtual Plenary Meeting on the days 23rd and 30th of March. The project will defend the analysis of good practices and interviews’ conduction in the first intellectual output: Circular Economy Modules, led by Sviluppo Chimica, with the support of CICA and CSCI, and the collaboration of the rest of the Consortium. This output targets defining specific educational modules in the field of Circular Economy for high school students to meet this need for better quality learning material. The main goal is to enhance students’ knowledge, awareness and interest in ESD principles, circular chemistry and its applications.

CIRCLE LAB is a European Erasmus+ KA201 Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project involving 9 organizations, grouped in clusters from five different countries. The idea of the project was born to respond to the need of developing a teacher training program for secondary school teachers and educational tools around the topic of circular economy with a focus on sustainable chemistry.

The platform will offer several digital tools such as videos, games, interactive manuals for the education of the school players to create awareness on sustainability and circular economy, supporting active citizenship, boosting their transversal skills and their interest in STEAM subjects.

CIRCLE LAB will defend in this Plenary Meeting the main goals of this project as a result of the first Intellectual Output: To provide teachers with the necessary quality contents on circular chemistry, to disseminate the understanding and promotion of circular chemistry principles in European young students and to support the European Commission for the development of an educational framework for chemistry education focused on sustainability and circular economy.

The results of the project will have an immediate impact on kids and young adults of ages 10-19 throughout Europe. The project intends to bring chemistry education closer to the topic of sustainability. CIRCLE LAB will focus on sustainable chemistry, aiming at the elaboration of materials and processes based on renewable and abundant sources such as carbon dioxide, biomass, solar energy, with special attention on material cycles and product durability.
